Team News: KRA#3 Race Report from April 28th and 29th

St. Louis, MO (May 2nd , 2007) – Vogel Racing was on the road again, this time in Newcastle, IN. We loaded up the trailer for a day of practice, and to hit the KRA club race on Sunday. To our surprise, Saturday practice ended up being a race. The Southern Indiana Racers Association (SIRA) was holding it’s first race, so the Stars stuff stayed on the trailer, and we unloaded the Yamahas. It’s good that we did, because Sunday’s KRA club race was tuff. Without Saturday’s work on the Yamaha karts, we would have been in big trouble on Sunday. This was our first weekend back on Yamaha’s in over two years, and it showed. Clutch set up, gears, keeping the kart free, but mostly CARBURETION, were the buzz words for the weekend. Which variable did we have a handle on??? None of them! We were still behind the karts when we loaded up to head home, but feel we are gaining on it. On the up side, the boys drove flawlessly, and our Fleming Yamaha’s appear to be making great power (when we hit the tune up correctly).
Anyone looking for great competition should make their way to Newcastle for the KRA races. The track is great, the management is friendly, and the competition, especially up front, is as tough as it comes!
Net results: Grant finished 4th and 4th. Christian finished 6th and 5th. A few small changes, and we hope to be in the lead draft for the next KRA race. Pictures from the weekend are posted under the Media link.
Quotes of the weekend:
Devon Nichols, “I put on my racing suit one leg at a time…. but once it’s on, I win kart races!”
Grant Vogel, “The kart just feels Glidey.” (A new karting term, feel free to use it! By the way, the tuning fix for “glidey” is to install the upper king pin bushings which were mysteriously missing on our newly acquired kart.)
